IX India -Size and location
There is a sequence of different kinds of geographical landmasses -
Continents -
subcontinents -
peninsula -
island
and our country is associated with all these landmasses.
India is located in ASIA, ASIA is the largest continent (a large continuous landmass) and it is also part Indian subcontinent (subcontinent is a small part of any continent separated by a physical feature eg mountain, river, etc and such an area has its own climate and culture)

The Indian subcontinent is formed by India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bhutan.
The southern part of our country is known as the peninsula (land surrounded by water on three sides) apart from the mainland it also has two groups of islands (land surrounded by water on all sides) - Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Island.
more interestingly Hindi words for these land can give a better understanding of the core concept of land size without any definition.
महाद्वीप- a big island - "maha"
उपमहाद्वीप- a part of the big island "up"
प्रायद्वीप- an island like land but not an island "praay"
द्वीप an island
HOTS- The definition of a continent is not universally accepted due to its conceptual error and the number of continents may differ from country to country. traditionally 7 continent theory is accepted but geographically and culturally this number is not correct as one may clearly find that Europe and Asia are connected but counted as a different continents.
some other models are - the two 6 continent models - AMERICA is a single continent ( north+south), another is EURASIA (Europe +Asia)
5 continents model- Africa, Eurasia, America, Oceania (or Australia), and Antarctica.
4 continents model -Afro-Eurasia, America, Australia, and Antarctica.
United Nations (UN) also follow different divisions.
